Dr. Talal Al Tahtamouni is a Professor of Physics and Materials Science who recently rejoined the Department of Physics at Yarmouk University following a distinguished ten-year tenure at Qatar University (QU).
During his decade at Qatar University (2015–2024), Prof. Al Tahtamouni held several key academic and leadership roles. Most recently, he served as a Research Professor at the Center for Advanced Materials (2024–2025) and as the Acting Manager of the Innovation Office (2023–2024) under the Office of the Vice President for Research & Graduate Studies. His leadership was instrumental in academic programming as the Coordinator of the Materials Science and Technology Master Program for over five years (2016–2022).
Prof. Al Tahtamouni’s international experience includes serving as a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the Nanophotonics Center at Texas Tech University, USA (2014-2015). He earned his Ph.D. from Kansas State University, USA, in 2007, which laid the foundation for his extensive career in semiconductor research.
Research Excellence
His research focuses on the cutting edge of materials science, specifically:
- Semiconductor Nanostructures: The design, deposition, and fabrication of advanced structures and optoelectronic devices.
- Renewable Energy: Developing 2D materials and metal oxide heterostructures for hydrogen production via photoelectrochemical water splitting.
- Characterization: Detailed transport and optical studies of thin films and heterostructures.
Teaching & Mentorship
With a career spanning nearly two decades, Prof. Al Tahtamouni has developed and taught a wide array of physics and materials science courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. He is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists and bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial innovation.
