About Me:

I am an assistant professor at the Department of Translation, Yarmouk University, Jordan. I received my PhD in Comparative Literature and Cultural Studies with concentration in Literary Translation from the University of Arkansas, US. I lecture in translation studies and world literature. Studying literatures of different cultures and translation has mediated my place as a translator and increased my sensitivity to language and communication needs in humanitarian contexts. I participated in an online international funded project launched in collaboration with Yarmouk University and In-Zone University of Geneva (Switzerland). This was a 12-month diploma, funded by Ford, and aimed at establishing an accredited academic degree in Humanitarian Interpreting and translation in Jordan. Following the MoU between Yarmouk University and The University of Geneva, I was responsible for the language enhancement part of the diploma and a joint tutor for interpreting classes working virtually with instructors from The University of Geneva. My teaching philosophy is to create an interactive environment that is conducive to using technology and implementing group work in class. This allows me to design modern teaching strategies and interactive video activities that stimulate active learning, critical thinking, communication, and collaborative projects among students. Besides my intellectually oriented activities, I am involved in humanitarian associations and social activities to serve my community. I also go to the gym regularly to keep healthy lifestyle and promote more functionality and mobility. My research interests are in Comparative Literature, Literary Translation, Translation, Postcolonial Translation, Middle Eastern Studies, and Interpreting.
