About Me
Abdullah M. Al-Dagamseh, Assistant Professor of English/Literature & Criticism in the Department of English @ Yarmouk University and Assistant to the Dean for Quality Assurance

I primarily teach courses in contemporary global literature and culture, exploring the ways that authors and writers have explored and critiqued the conditions of contemporary life through their creative work. My courses are centered around class discussion and frequent short written journal entries, sometimes culminating in a final research project and/or portfolio on a subject of each student's choosing. I find that this approach to learning and teaching motivates, stimulates, and encourages my students to get more engaged in my classes and to be active (rather than passive) learners, who contribute to producing and questioning knowledge. This approach, in fact, fosters students' self-development as independent thinkers and scholars and responsible citizens.

My research and teaching interests include: Contemporary Global literature and culture, Transnational Cultural Studies, Transnational American Studies, Literary Criticism, Critical & Cultural Theory, Marxist Theory, Cultural Approaches to Neoliberalism, (Alter)globalization, Neoliberalism, Political Economy, the Bretton Woods Trio, and World Debt. While a Ph.D. student, I worked under the supervision of Prof. David Downing, Prof. Susan Comfort, Prof. Bret Benjamin, and Prof. Mike Sell in areas of Global literature and culture, critical theory, Transnational Cultural Studies, and Critical Pedagogy.

I presented various papers in important international conferences and seminars in my field such as Cultural Studies Association Conference (USA), Northeast Modern Language Association Conference (USA), College English Association Conference (USA), Interdisciplinary Conference in Humanities (USA), UC-Berkeley Conference, Crisis, Contradiction, Contestation: Postwar Economy and Culture (USA), Duke University Conference, Cultures of Recession (USA), among others. In 2014, I was awarded His Highness Amir Sheik Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Scholarly Research Award in a regional conference held at Jordan University. This Award was granted for the best 3 researchers in the Humanities in the Arab World.

I served as Student Vice-President in the Honoro Society of Phi Kappa Phi, IUP Chapter, USA. I am a member of Modern Language Association, Cultural Studies Association, College English Association, Marxist Literary Group, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, among other academic organizations.

Besides my teaching Literature courses in the English department, I am serving as Assistance to the Dean for Quality Assurance.
