About Me

Dr. Mu’ath I. Abu Qamar, Ph.D. Mu’ath I. Abu Qamar is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Yarmouk University (YU). Dr. Abu Qamar possess diverse experience, he has held various roles, including site and planning engineer in contracting companies, supervision engineer in consulting firms, consultations, design and implementation specialist at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS), as well as teaching assistant, research assistant, and lecturer in Civil and Environmental Engineering departments. Dr. Abu Qamar specializes in geotechnical, foundation and materials engineering. His current research focuses on the behavior of soil-bio-inspired and engineered pilled foundation interaction subjected to different loading conditions. Moreover, he focuses on the use of advanced concrete materials to address issues related to structures in or near water. His research also includes experimental evaluation of soil-structure interface response under monotonic and cyclic axial loading conditions. Dr. Abu Qamar earned his PhD in Civil (Geotechnical) Engineering from Lehigh University (LU) in Pennsylvania, USA, in 2022. He was selected as a P. C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science fellow in 2020 and held the position of the vice-president of the Geo-Institute (G-I) student chapter at Lehigh University. Throughout his doctoral journey, Dr. Abu Qamar evaluated novel offshore foundation concepts and improved the understanding of soil behavior and soil-structure interaction of foundation elements subjected to long-term cyclic axial loading. In addition to this, he also explored the employment of advanced concrete materials and additive manufacturing techniques in energy storage applications. He also received his Master’s degree in Civil (Structural) Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology (Irbid, Jordan) in 2015. Throughout his Master’s work, he employed Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) in solving an inverse mapping problem for earthquake accelerograms generation and performed site response analysis to quantify and classify Dubai, UAE soil. Dr. Abu Qamar received his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Mu’tah University (Al-Karak, Jordan) in 2010. Dr. Abu Qamar has published peer-reviewed journal and conference papers in the field of Civil Engineering. He is the author or co-author of papers published in several journals including the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering (ASCE); Canadian Geotechnical Journal (Canada); Journal of Constructional Steel Research; and Geotechnical Testing Journal (ASTM). Dr. Abu Qamar also serves as a reviewer for several national and international journals, and conferences in geotechnical and foundation engineering.
